El proceso de evolución urbana en Seúl

Abstract

La ciudad de Seúl, capital de Corea del Sur, es el centro político y económico donde se concentra la mayor parte de la población de ese país. El área metropolitana de Seúl, que incluye lncheon, donde se ubica el aeropuerto, uno de lo mejores del mundo, y la provincia de Gyonggi, destaca como símbolo del profundo cambio social, político y económico ocurrido en un corto periodo de tiempo. Este se refleja en la evolución urbana de una ciudad con más de 600 años de historia, donde se ha logrado implementar innovación, alta tecnología y competitividad que en la actuali­dad procura el desarrollo urbano sin descuidar la sostenibilidad ambienral de la ciudad. Es objetivo del presente artículo repasar el proceso urbano seguido por la ciudad de Seúl toman­do en cuenta los diferentes condicionantes de la evolución de la ciudad. Finalmente, la autora reflexiona sobre los logros alcanzados en el desarrollo urbano de esta ciudad, y busca determinar si estos se explican por la intervención directa del Estado nacional.

The capital ciry of Sourh Korea, Seoul. is the financial and political center of the nation where the biggest populacion of the country is concentrared. The Metropolitan area of Seoul, whith includes the city or district of Incheon, where the airport is located (one of the best in the world), and the province of Gyonggi, stands our as a symbol of profound social, economic and political change that has taken place in a short period of time. This change is reflected in the urban evolu­tion of a city with more Than 600 year of history that has achieved innovation, high technology and a competitiveness that nowadays seeks urban development without sacrificing the environ­menfal sustainability of the city. This article is a review of the urban process Seoul City has gone through, and takes into consid­eration the differenf conditions thtr derermined the cicy's evolution. Finally,the author reflects on the city's urban development achievements and whether they can be explained by the direct intervention of the national government.
