Memoria urbana. Palimpsestos, huellas y trazados en Lima Metropolitana

Abstract

Lima, la capital peruana, tiene una relación tal vez más conflictiva que otras ciudades con su propia memoria: por un lado, cultiva su legado colonial sin poder superar estructuras sociales de esta época ni establecer órganos que sean realmente capaces de protegerlo. A su vez, ha dado la espalda a su herencia prehispánica sin darse cuenta del potencial de integración y del valor urbano- paisajístico y cultural que significa para la ciudad, sin asumir su responsabilidad de protegerla como valor de la humanidad. El texto introduce el concepto del espacio público como palimpsesto de memorias colectivas y analiza y propone distintas iniciativas de recuperar memoria y buscar formas de visualizarla y reavivarla. En tiempos de un boom inmobiliario.y de la consolidación a pasos gigantescos de la ciudad informal, resulta cada vez más importante trazar e investigar esta memoria y encontrar fórmulas urbanísticas, artísticas y cívicas de plasmar sus huellas en el espacio urbano. Los espacios de memoria son claves en la creación de identidad urbana y de ciudadanía.

The Peruvian capital Lima has possibly a more conflictive relation with its own memory than other cities might do. It cultivares its colonial legacy without beíng capable of overcoming an enduring coloníalism in its social structures and of establishing organs that would be capable of procecting this heritage. At the same time, it has turned its back completely to its pre-Híspaníc hericage, without realízing its highest potential of integration and of urbanistic and cultural value for the urban landscape and without assuming a responsíbility by protecting it for the humanity. The text introduces the concept of public space as a palimpsest of collective memories and analyses and propases different initiatives ro recreare urban memory and ro find Eorms far its visualization and reactivation. In times of a real estate boom and an accelerated and also profound consolidation of the informal city, it turns out to be each time more importan to trace and investigate urban memory and find urbanistic, artistic and civíc ways to formulate its traces in urban realm. Spaces of memory are crucial for the creation of urban identity and the construction of citízenship.
