The present thesis was carried out in order to propose an alternative solution to the management of slaughterhouse wastewater, through biological treatment through trickling filters and to study its behavior at different dosages of slaughterhouse wastewater diluted with domestic wastewater. The system was fed with effluent from the pre-treatment unit of the Wastewater Treatment Pilot Plant of the National University of Engineering (CITRAR). The residual water was accumulated in homogenization tanks, in which the mixtures were made at different dosages of slaughterhouse drainage, distributing the mixed residual water through a submersible pump, to each biological filter, under the same flow rate 83.6 L⁄d. The three treatment systems evaluated are made up of: a homogenization tank, flow control system, rotary flow distribution system, trickling filter and the collection area with a subsequent settler. For this purpose, it has been essential to daily verify the operation of the process and analyze the residual waters of the affluent and final effluent of the pilot system, for which parameters such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, total, suspended and sedimentable solids were measured, as well as the level of removal of organic matter measured in BOD; Different percentages of slaughterhouse wastewater were applied to each filter throughout the investigation. Based on the results obtained, the trickling filter, operating at organic loads between 3.2 and 5.2 kg BOD/m3. d, has the ability to achieve high quality effluents, stable sludge production with easy sedimentation, stability in the removal efficiency of organic matter between 75% and 85% and operates normally under oxygen limiting conditions between 1 and 2 mg/L.
